[SURABAYA - INDONESIA] Rising kawaii metal idol group METANARU are ready to introduce their unique musical identity to the world with the release of their debut single and music video, “PHENOMENA,” arriving on June 12, 2026, across all major digital streaming platforms.
Formed in April 2024 in Surabaya, METANARU began life as a dance cover project before evolving into a full-fledged idol group that fuses the vibrant energy of Japanese idol culture with the crushing intensity of metal music. The current lineup features FAYY, JOYY, CACA, and NERA, four performers determined to carve out a space for kawaii metal within Indonesia's alternative music landscape.
The name METANARU itself draws inspiration from the Japanese word metaru (metal), combined with the concept of a nation or community. For the members, the name also symbolizes transformation, growth, and the courage to become something beyond the ordinary.
With “PHENOMENA,” METANARU tackle a theme that feels painfully familiar to many young people today: living under pressure, battling self-doubt, and carrying the weight of expectations while continuing to push forward toward an uncertain future.
"The pressures, demands, and expectations from others have become part of everyday life," explains CACA. "That's why we wanted to translate those phenomena into a song that people can genuinely relate to."
NERA echoes that sentiment, emphasizing the song's universal message.
"Everyone experiences doubt, pressure, and obstacles while chasing their future," she says. "The difference is that some people choose to keep moving forward despite everything standing in their way."
One of the most distinctive aspects of “PHENOMENA” is its trilingual lyricism, seamlessly blending Indonesian, English, and Japanese throughout the song. The decision was intentional from the start, allowing the track to connect with a wider audience ranging from local metal fans to lovers of Japanese music and pop culture.
Most of the lyrics were written by FAYY, while JOYY contributed the song's rap section. Among the track's standout moments is the line:
"I promise I'll be there with you in any phenomena."
For FAYY, the lyric carries a deeply personal meaning.
"Sometimes it's a promise to yourself. Sometimes it's a promise to someone else," she explains. "There's always a reason to stay strong and keep going."
Recorded at Ramsell Music Studio, “PHENOMENA” also marks METANARU's first professional studio recording experience. Beyond the vocal sessions, the members were actively involved in creating choreography that will become a core part of the group's live identity moving forward.
Combining aggressive metal riffs, bright idol-pop melodies, and lyrics that reflect real-life struggles, “PHENOMENA” serves as METANARU's opening statement, introducing kawaii metal to a broader audience across Indonesia and beyond.
"It's okay to feel sad," says JOYY. "Just don't stay stuck there forever. Wake up, because your future is still waiting for you. And if you feel alone, we'll be there with you through this song."
Ganbatte in any PHENOMENA!
